Nearly time for the Presentation Night!!

28 October 2017 Presentation Night at the Magnet Hotel - Halloween Fancy Dress Competition

Great news - with the kind permission of Astley Riding Centre in Swillington we're able to hold four shows this year. This will make your membership even better value and give you more opportunity to grab those points! The new schedule is now ready for 2017 - there are some changes and we have two new Thoroughbred classes which are open to any Thoroughbreds whether they have raced or not.

Well the weather was kind at the first show in May and we had a great time welcoming lots of new members - and some regular faces too. Congratulations to all who competed and thanks to our hardworking judges and generous sponsors as well as our brilliant photographer Aindy Ainge - see his website for all the pictures at very competitive prices. Not forgetting the catering provided by J and V Catering - without which we wouldn't last the day! We had our very first RoR Riding Club Challenge Champion in Charlotte Bagshaw with her ex-racehorse Salvado and hopefully this competition will grow. See the bottom of the page for the results and points - please let us know straight away if you spot anything that you think may be wrong.

June's show day turned out to be a scorcher - hot competition and even hotter weather with sun cream and sun burn in abundance! Well done to all the competitors and their horses who lasted the day and gave us some great events. The Championship table is taking shape but with two shows still to go there is plenty of opportunity to grab more points and turn it all around. Remember - you've got to be in it to win it!

Our third show of the year in July and the weather was still holding out! Great turnout and fantastic competitions with lots of Harry Hall One Club prizes given out in all the disciplines. Thanks as ever to our judges, sponsors, caterers and photographers. And a special thanks to the people who answered our plea for assistance in putting up and packing away at the end of the day - your help was greatly appreciated :) The points have been updated and are on the file at the bottom of the page. Lots of healthy competition in the Championship Leader-board but still chance for things to change at the last show on 10th September. Don't forget this one is at Astley Riding Centre in Swillington. We're looking forward to it so hope to see you all there.

Well all the shows are now finished and we've had a great year with lots of new members and some fun times. Just the Presentation Night left which will be on 28 October with a Halloween theme for a scary change! All our Class Champions and Reserves will be presented with their trophies and gorgeous rosettes as well as special awards decided by the committee for the most improved/deserving members in each of the disciplines over the year.

We're holding our Halloween Fancy Dress party at the Magnet Hotel on Pontefract Road Castleford WF10 4BG and all are welcome. The night will start at 7.30 and there 'll be plenty of food and a disco as well as a raffle and prizes for the best adult and best child's costume. The tickets will be available from any committee member, you can pay online and have the tickets posted or call round to whoever lives closest to you - all our contact details are on the Contact Us page above. The tickets will be £15 per adult and £10 per child between 4 and 15 years old. The updated points are shown in the attached file at the bottom of the page.

We are pleased to be running qualifiers for several Championships this year - The Showing Register (TSR) enables you to qualify for three different Championships with one TSR qualification card. The British Show Horse Grass Roots championships is in September at Addington Equestrian Centre (see their website at for more details), The Sport Horse GB Riding Club Championship ( ) as well as the TSR Showing Finals for both In Hand and Riders. Full details are on their website at . Cards will be given out by the Judge for the 1st and 2nd places for the Ridden Classes but  1st and 2nd placed Handlers must get their free cards from the TSR website and have them signed by the judge in the ring for the In Hand classes - some cards may be available on the day from us in the entry tent.

Do you have an ex-racehorse? If you have registered your horse with the Retraining of Racehorses (RoR) you can enter the RoR Riding Club Challengat our shows this year. All you do is provide your RoR number when you enter any class and you're automatically entered in the challenge. A point is awarded for each class that you enter at the show and added to any points that you may collect for being placed. The points system is the same as for riding club members - 12 points for 1st, 10 points for 2nd, all the way down to 6th place. The highest placed horse at each show is awarded a special RoR rosette. We hope you enjoy taking part in the Riding Club Challenge and remember your horse doesn't have to have raced but does have to be registered with the RoR.

We are pleased to welcome back Andy Ainge as our show photographer this year  - see our links page for his contact details and website. Photos are usually uploaded within a day of the show for you to view and choose your favourites - pictures are then trimmed and finished to a high standard and are available in lots of different formats. We also have some new sponsors and our thanks go to Clare Stansill who is sponsoring the Pretty Mare class in memory of her daughter Dani and providing lots of prizes up to sixth place, J and V Catering who are sponsoring the Pairs jumping and Rachel Thornton Veterinary Physiotherapy. Rachel is sponsoring the Ridden Veteran class and is providing vouchers to the first three places. If anyone else would like to sponsor a class please get in touch. Thank you to all our very generous sponsors.

Here are the points after the September show -lots of healthy competition between our junior members in particular so have a look and see where you finished.
