In memory of Dougal 11h 16 years old cross Shetland. Chestnut

What can we say about our beloved pony Dougal. We have so many happy memories for instance pinching somebody’s water and weeing next to the bucket. Pinching the flake out of Megan’s ice-cream. He won the most appealing eyes and fancy dress at Castleford riding club Won the novelty ring champion 2009 and 2010. Dougal loved Castleford riding club for the atmosphere and overall the friendlessness of the whole team of Castleford riding club. Dougal was our own cheeky monkey champion who would do and eat anything including cheesy chips. He liked nothing more than being out and about. He especially loved been at all of the riding club shows he loved winning his mummy prizes and collecting points so she could win big trophies at the presentation night he never put a hoof wrong. He would dress up for Castleford riding club fancy dress and for sponsored rides and collect money for charity along the way. We miss him so much and we love him loads he left us at the start of February but we will never forget him. Castleford riding club will remember Dougal and he will be surely missed by lots of people.

We have sadly lost our old  pony.

Meggy 12.2 bay mare

Meggy joined our family over 4 years ago and came to semi retire and she was in her 20,s   and have lovely hacks out with Dougal. She came on loan from Becky and Su who have visited her often.

However Meggy had other ideas and was always raring to go.

Ebony and Megan were both brought on by Meggy as she absolutely adored children and would stand for ages letting them groom her lovely coat and mane and beautiful tail.

We took her to the first few shows at Castleford and Ferrybridge to enter the novelty rings especially pretty mare and bonny pony and fancy dress.

Meggy loved the showground and the fact that she was in the show ring again with Megan and Ebony .Meggy sometimes played along in pretty mare by stopping the line and having the longest wee ! Meggy also once put her head down to eat the lovely green grass  and Ebony just slid straight off !

Meggy was never naughty .She was so very kind  and we thought she must think been there, done that. Children would approach us and say Meggy had taught them to ride at a local riding school when she was there .They were always so pleased to see her looking so  well.

A diagnosis of Cushing’s didn’t even stop Meggy but it did end her show days.

She was pleased to stay at home and  would welcome Bootleg and Dougal home when they arrived letting out the loudest whinny. Meggy was always so vocal.

Meggy started to decline  after we lost our Dougal despite having the others for company and sadly left us 24th March only 7 weeks after Dougal.

We know that they will now be together ,no doubt arguing who won the most rosettes at Castleford Show .We will remember them always and miss them both so much .
